Traffic Signal Controller
Factory Acceptance Test (FAT)

Factory Acceptance Test (FAT)

Testing the traffic signal controller before it is installed on site is a must to ensure that it has been set up correctly and that all the information contained in the controller specification has been accurately replicated in the controller.

This Factory Acceptance Test (FAT) is undertaken either on a computer simulation of the junction (called an emulator) where all aspects of the controller can be tested and adjusted, or alternatively in the signal company depot using a rig of lights set up to represent the junction being tested.

The Factory Acceptance Test is a crucial part of the design process where any issues and problems must be identified and resolved before the controller is installed on street.
